Propel Process Development has it's roots in the implantable medical device industry where the bar for quality is incredibly high.
Is High Yield the same as High Quality?
Most people in manufacturing use these terms interchangeably.
In reality, you can have High Yield and not have High Quality.
When you are focused on Yield:
- You are focused on outputs that you have identified and are actively monitoring.
When you are focused on Quality:
- You must use a methodology that assumes the existence of outputs that have not been identified yet.
This seems like a small difference, but it is the main difference between a traditional manufacturing process methods and our exceptionally high quality manufacturing process methods.
What do all product recalls have in common?
The root cause can always be attributed to one or more of the following three issues:
1.) Design Flaw
- The design output was not properly tested to ensure design reliability.
- The design output specification was not written properly.
2.) Manufacturing Escape
- A design output was outside specification but was not identified during manufacturing.
3.) New Failure Mode
- The product failed in a way that was not anticipated by the design engineer or the process engineer, therefore, was not monitored or tested.
